LWD Cycling Team Joins the “Race to Remember” Honoring Lives, Racing for Hope

Yesterday was a powerful and emotional day for the cycling community in Rwanda. The LWD Cycling Team proudly took part in the “Race to Remember”, an event filled with reflection, unity, and hope for a better future.

The day began at the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Kicukiro, where cyclists and supporters gathered for a solemn ceremony. Together, they laid flowers to honor former cyclists who were killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, as well as all victims who lost their lives simply because of who they were.

It was a deeply moving moment, reminding everyone that sports, like life, must stand for unity, dignity, and humanity.

After the memorial ceremony, the energy shifted toward hope and resilience. The “Race to Remember” officially began at Canal Olympia, with cyclists setting off on a symbolic ride toward Nyamata, Bugesera District. The ride is not only a physical journey but also a message of commitment to remember the past, celebrate resilience, and build a united future.

The LWD Cycling Team, riding with pride and purpose, stood strong among other teams — carrying the message that remembrance is not about staying in sadness, but about racing forward with strength, unity, and hope.
