Learn Work Develop (LWD) has concluded a community engagement activity under the Beyond Boundaries Project in Kiramuruzi Sector, Gatsibo District, bringing together parents and local leaders to reflect on the knowledge gained and commit to actions that can contribute to positive change in their communities.
Following sessions focused on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), participants developed their Imihigo — personal and community commitments aimed at putting their learning into practice.
The commitments focus on strengthening community understanding and response to challenges affecting vulnerable groups, including violence, exclusion, and limited support for persons with disabilities, while promoting more inclusive and supportive communities.
The engagement also brought together local leadership, recognizing the important role of community structures in translating knowledge into action. Mwiseneza Jean Claude, LWD Executive Director, attended the activity and encouraged participants to take ownership of their commitments and use the knowledge gained to contribute to meaningful change in their communities. The Kiramuruzi Sector leadership also participated in the engagement.
About Beyond Boundaries
Beyond Boundaries: Reclaiming Sexuality of Vulnerable Young Persons in Rwanda is a three-year project funded by AmplifyChange, addressing barriers faced by young people with disabilities and other compounded vulnerabilities in accessing and exercising their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights. The project is being implemented across five districts through a consortium of six organizations: FAWE Rwanda, NUDOR, Impanuro Girls Initiative (IGI), Learn Work Develop (LWD), Organization for Integration and Promotion of People with Albinism (OIPPA), and Rwanda Union of the Blind (RUB). LWD is responsible for implementing the project in Gatsibo District.
Through community engagement, capacity strengthening, and inclusive approaches, Beyond Boundaries seeks to strengthen knowledge, challenge barriers and harmful norms, and support more accessible and responsive SRHR services for vulnerable young people.
For LWD, these community commitments represent an important step in ensuring that knowledge gained through the project is translated into action that reaches families, communities, and those who are most often left behind.
