The morning of November 17, 2024, was crisp and electric as the Amahoro Stadium Parking buzzed with excitement. The 11th episode of the Rwanda Youth Racing Cup was about to kick off, and among the many competitors, three young girls stood out: Alice, Amina, and Sandrine—the pride of the Bike for Future Cycling Team.
Representing their categories with determination, they were more than athletes; they were symbols of resilience and empowerment, supported by LWD (Learn Work Develop) and Plan International under the Bike for Future Project.
The event unfolded amidst cheers from passionate supporters. Alice competed fiercely in the Women Juniors (U19) category, her every pedal stroke a testament to the hours of practice and discipline. In the Cadets Girls (U17) category, Amina showcased her agility and strategic racing, maneuvering sharp turns with the precision of a seasoned pro. Sandrine, the youngest in the Minimes Girls (U15) category, raced with the fearless spirit of a girl determined to make her mark.
Despite the intense competition, all three girls gave their best, proving their mettle not only as cyclists but also as trailblazers for young girls in Rwanda. Alice crossed the finish line with pride, securing a respectable position. Amina’s perseverance earned her loud applause, and Sandrine’s energetic performance captured the hearts of the crowd.
For the Bike for Future Team, the day wasn’t just about winning medals; it was about showcasing the potential of young girls when given the opportunity and support to dream. With every turn of the wheel, they inspired countless young Rwandans to believe in themselves and chase their goals, no matter how steep the climb.
As the event concluded, the girls stood together, their medals gleaming in the sunlight and their hearts full of gratitude. “This is just the beginning,” Alice said with a smile. They knew their journey had only begun, and the future held even greater victories.
