The Bike for Future project, a remarkable initiative supporting girls in pursuing opportunities traditionally dominated by boys, recently hosted a special two-day visit from Velo Afrique sponsors. Organized in collaboration with LWD and Plan International Rwanda, the visit highlighted the transformational impact of empowering young women through cycling, welding, mechanics, and sustainable energy projects.
The visit began at MCR Rwanda, where the Bike for Future Cycling Team eagerly prepared to meet the visitors. With excitement and happy faces, the girls greeted the group warmly, setting the tone for an inspiring day.
The next stop was Nelson Mandela TSS. It was an exciting day for the Bike for Future project as we welcomed passionate riders on their Velo Afrique-organized cycling tour through Rwanda. Their visit was a chance to showcase how our project is breaking stereotypes and supporting girls to excel in fields often dominated by boys.”
“The tour started at the mechanics workshop, where girls demonstrated their skills in bicycle repair and maintenance. Their confidence and expertise impressed everyone, proving that determination knows no gender.”
Next, the visitors saw our welding class. Here, girls are mastering the art of welding, a skill that not only empowers them but also opens doors to job opportunities in technical fields.”
“After the workshops, our visitors joined the cycling team for a ride to Nyamata town. This journey highlighted the unique bond between the sponsors and the participants of Bike for Future.”

Day two began at Nelson Mandela TSS with another warm welcome, Greeted by Jean Claude Mwiseneza, the Executive Director of LWD, and Solomon, the Country Director of Plan International Rwanda, along with their dedicated teams, the visitors felt an incredible sense of community and purpose. “this time including Laurent from the Embassy of Belgium in Kigali. The visitors were once again inspired as they toured the mechanics and welding workshops, witnessing the dedication of the students.”
The highlight of the day was the solar power installation project. This initiative, aimed at providing sustainable energy for the school’s welding activities.
